What Is Tie Dye Fabric?

Tie dye fabric was originally developed for use as an industrial fabric dye. The name tie dye is derived from the fact that it is soluble in a solution of tannic acid and water. Tannic acid is a type of acid commonly used as an industrial soil reclamation product. In the early nineteen twenties a number of textile dye manufacturers located in New England began experimenting with the utilization of this particular acid as a means of adding color to fabric. As a result the term tie dye was born.

During the eighties and the nineties casual wear was made in the same style. The fabric was still widely used during the 1990s as people searched for ways to keep warm and fashionable.
